Breaking: IIA of IL Passes Association CE Credit Bill
By Evan Manning
On March 30, the Senate passed HB 4324 sponsored by Rep. Bob Morgan and Sen. Julie Morrison. The bill, which will be sent to the Governor for his signature, provides that a registered licensed insurance producer is eligible to receive up to 4 hours of continuing education credits on a biennial basis based on their active participation in a state or national professional insurance association.
Active participation is defined as being a member of the board of directors, a committee, sub-committee, or task force of the professional insurance association. Dual credit is not allowed under this bill as insurance producers who serve in some capacity for multiple associations would only receive credit for service to one association.
Insurance professional trade associations must keep a detailed accounting of attendance, duration of meetings, and topics discussed in the meetings. A Continuing Education provider would then submit this information at the end of the 2-year term to the Department of Insurance for approval.
Continuing Education is an important part of an insurance professional’s training. The industry is forever growing and shifting as the market and consumers' needs grow and shift. Participation and membership with an industry association provides valuable education and insights to its members and accomplishes many of the same goals as traditional or web-based continuing education (CE) credits. This bill is a small token of appreciation for our producers who serve our state and national association. We hope this encourages our members to get actively involved in the IIA of IL and serve in some capacity. If you’d like to get involved, get started here.
